Amy Mason Receives Delta Gamma JLTLI Scholarship
March 30th, 2009Amy Mason, a student in TVI (former student in O&M) at UMass Boston, received a Delta Gamma Scholarship to attend the 2009 Josephine L. Taylor Leadership Institute held in Washington, DC. A few words from Amy’s nomination say it all:
"When Amy applied to the UMass Boston Vision Studies Program in the spring of 2005, she stated that '"I believe I will be an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher."' Amy has already attained COMS status and as she completes her TVI Practicum this Fall and Spring, it is easy to see that she is attaining her goal. Amy is a gentle, caring teacher who conveys a sense of great enthusiasm for working with her students. Amy uses the diagnostic skills she has learned in her graduate program to plan lessons that are tailor-made to each child’s needs. Her lessons are fun, engaging and efficient. Amy is highly professional in her communication with colleagues and parents; she an active participant of her student’s IEP teams."
Amy's 3.9 GPA speaks to her dedication as a student. She has joined AERBVI and attends conferences and workshops to stay on the cutting edge of information in our field. Amy is at the forefront of the new generation of teachers who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and ready to assist students with visual impairment to learn all the skills they need to be full members of our high tech society.
