Improving Education for Individuals with Visual Impairments.

Personal Management Instructor

We seek an Instructor to assess and instruct individuals who are blind or visually impaired, to support the development of adaptive household and personal care skills both at home and in the workplace.  Areas included are grooming, cooking, cleaning surfaces, ironing, laundry and handling common household emergencies.  Classes also cover the safe use and care of kitchen appliances & non-visual knife skills, organizing work and home spaces, note taking, following recipes & effective adaptive eating/pouring skills.   Use of assistive technology is incorporated into instruction.
The Carroll Center is a comprehensive center-based training program.  The Department uses a team-based approach, where all instructors across training disciplines work together to best support consumer skill development and emotional adjustment to vision loss


Successful candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in blindness rehabilitation or education.  Must be kind, energetic, creative, enthusiastic and possess excellent oral/written communication skills including use of computers.   Certification as a VRT or TVI preferred.   Experience teaching a variety of assistive technology techniques a plus.
