Improving Education for Individuals with Visual Impairments.

Unified English Braille in Puerto Rico

A hard-working cohort of 12 students from the island of Puerto Rico successfully completed the Braille I course for Unified English Braille. Students began the course in March with a full day of orientation and presentations by Vision Studies instructors Sandy Smith and Wendy Buckley. They continued the semester online in Blackboard with local support by Professor Jose Alvarez of the University of Puerto Rico. The course culminated in June when the group convened for a final day at the University of Puerto Rico. Students demonstrated their knowledge of the braille code and enthusiastically presented their braille projects to the class.
