The State of Connecticut Department of Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for an Education Consultant 1 (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) position.

The State of Connecticut Department of Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for an Education Consultant 1 (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) position.
The preferred candidate should be an organized individual who works well independently and collaboratively with others.  In addition, the preferred candidate should be knowledgeable in the principles and methods of education of children who are blind and visually impaired, including children with multiple impairments. This includes all areas of the expanded core curriculum (ECC).  They should be knowledgeable in the principles and methods of braille instruction and they should be familiar with technology designed to support children who are blind and visually impaired. Responsibilities will include traveling statewide.

Qualifications: 

Graduation from college (graduation shall be considered successful completion of a four-year college course or its equivalent) and not less than twelve (12) semester hours' credit in courses applicable to the blind or partially-sighted. OR IN LIEU THEREOF an equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable to the State Board of Education for certification.
Possession of a certificate in special education in the area of teaching or partially-sighted issued by the State Board of Education.
