Assistive Technology Specialist & Trainer
New England Low Vision and Blindness (NELVB) is seeking an Assistive Technology Specialist & Trainer to join our Low Vision Technology Rehabilitation team. The Assistive Technology Specialist & Trainer is Full Time professional and salaried position. Travel within the Six (6) New England States is required.
Our Low Vision Technology Rehabilitation team works together to cross train and share the latest innovations in low vision and blindness technology - as well as the changing low vision and blindness needs - to educators, students, consumers veterans, government agencies and programs.
The Assistive Technology Specialist & Trainer teaches consumers who are blind and visually impaired, as well as those who work with them, to use assistive technology in schools, businesses, homes and everyday purposes.
The qualified candidate will perform assistive technology assessments as well as work with consumers to help them achieve their goals. The candidate will generate training and assessment reports, respond to technology questions submitted to New England Low Vision and Blindness and perform other duties as assigned.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
• Provide comprehensive technology evaluation services in the client’s home, school or office.
• Assess the individual’s vision loss needs and work them to design a flexible, caring and customized
training solution around their individual needs and their technology experience.
• Work with our clients to set-up and configure low vision and blindness aids to best suit their needs
and environment.
• Train, evaluate and support adaptive technology for the visually impaired and help them develop the
skills necessary to remain independent.
• Work with other members of the NELVB Low Vision Technology Rehabilitation team to share
knowledge and collaborate to help further strengthen our market leadership position.
We are looking for people who:
• Desire to work with Seniors who are of all different cognitive functions.
• Ability to trouble-shoot technical problems independently and identify and activate support systems
when necessary.
• Desire to work with individuals who are proficient with technology in their home, office or school.
• Have the ability to self-teach or collaborate with co-workers when possible to learn new or
unfamiliar technologies.
• Capable of working autonomously and as part of a team.
• Travel to schools, businesses, homes is required.
• Flexible, creative, and compassionate in order to provide solutions to our client’s and their families.
• Possess excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Are detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and are reliable and responsive.
• Excel at coaching, with a strong aptitude to observe, evaluate and use various techniques to
improve results.


Assistive Technology Specialist & Trainer
Minimum Requirements:
• Experience in Apple and PC computers, environments and applications
• All candidates must be 21 years of age or older; have a valid state drivers license; and, have a
legally registered and insured car for work use. A company vehicle may be available.
• Have an understanding of basic Smart Home Technology (e.g. Amazon Alexa) and its use.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
• Experience in assistive technology for people who are blind or visually impaired.
• CATIS Certification is desirable, but not required
• Teacher certification as a Teacher of Visually Impaired (TVI) is desirable, but not required.
• Certification in related field (i.e., Education, social work, etc.)
