Improving Education for Individuals with Visual Impairments.

Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments

The beautiful state of Maine has 2 positions open  for a teacher of students with visual impairment. One position is located in the greater Portland area, with the other located in rural Downeast Maine. If you are looking on a map, look for Calais or Machias. Both areas are very different but have lots to offer. TVI's in Maine are itinerant  and follow a school year calendar . The TVI's provide direct and consultative services to children with or without additional disabilities birth through age 20 or completion of high school. Services include instruction and consultation in all areas of the expanded core curriculum.  We work in homes, daycares, public and private schools. Though we are very spread out, we have a very supportive community of TVI's in Maine, all who are employed by Catholic Charities Maine.

The successful candidate will hold a college degree (Bachelors or Masters) in teaching students with a visual impairment. Must meet state of Maine certification requirments. TVIs must be good strong communicators and willing to work as a team. They must be able to demonstrate strong braille skills or a willingness to develop those skills  including UEB for technical.
