The Multi Purpose Vision Rehabilitation Teacher will provide support for College Success students, with the goal of supporting individual growth, independence and satisfaction with the range of independent living skills and learning skills needed for successful college completion, and life.  
The Multi Purpose Vision Rehabilitation Teacher will provide the following, including but not limited to:

  • Provides direct instruction on the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), based on the demonstrated and assessed needs of College Success students.   
  • Teach students skills to meet their individual objectives and report progress on these objectives in oral and/or written formats as prescribed by the program.  
  • Assist in providing a safe and secure environment for students.  
  • Apply good judgment and effective problem-solving skills in working with students on and off-campus.  Participate in staff development and training.
  • Read records, observe students, consult with other program staff and clinicians to determine capabilities, limitations and the special needs of each student.  Apply this information in working with students, preparing goals, objectives and specific lesson plans to meet these needs.
  • Provide a setting that fosters a respectful attitude toward human rights, confidentiality, and privacy as they relate to working with the students.  
  • Observe all regulations required by licensing agencies which apply to students.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation or related field with a preferred minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience working with high school/college aged students with visual impairments and working with students in a vocational setting.  Must be currently certified or willing to be certified in First Aid and CPR.    

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Current certification such as:

  • ACVREP certification for dual Vision Rehabilitation Teacher/COMS (eligible for ACVREP certification in COMS)
  • ACVREP certification (COMS, CVRT, CLVT)
  • Appropriate Massachusetts or National certification for field of expertise
  • Massachusetts teacher certification in Vision Impairments
  • Massachusetts teacher certification in related field (ie. Education, social work
  • ASHA certification
  • NRA certification
  • Experience & expertise in assistive/adaptive technology
