The Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) provides quality programs of individualized rehabilitation services, educational consultation, technical assistance, and instruction that empower eligible individuals to achieve their desired levels of independence. Our programs are client-focused consistent with individual abilities and informed choices.
We are looking for someone to provide orientation and mobility assessment and instruction to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind to reach their desired ability to travel independently and safely in both familiar and unfamiliar areas.
This position covers a territory of 5 cities and 12 counties, including Charlottesville City, Clarke, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Frederick, Greene, Harrisonburg City, Louisa, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Staunton City, Warren, Waynesboro City, Winchester City.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of orientation and mobility principles; of adjustment to blindness concepts, the rehabilitation process, and the education of individuals with vision impairments; of functional implications of eye disorders.
Skills and ability to assess orientation and mobility needs and plan and carry out an individualized program of O&M instruction to meet those needs; to assess individuals to identify proper use of both visual and non-visual techniques.
Must possess the education and training in orientation and mobility and be certified by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (COMS) or National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NOMC) or meet eligibility requirements to sit for exam within 6 months of hire.

Hiring Range: Salary range $47,476 - $87,831 ($10,000 Sign on Bonus)
