The Virginia of the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBV) is seeking a Rehabilitation Technology Specialist (Wage) to provide individualized technology assessments for training and job-related needs of individuals referred by field staff or assigned by supervisor. Travel is required throughout the assigned region to individual work sites or home to conduct assessments and make recommendations for specific equipment that meets individual and employer requirements.
Assist with timely selection, adaptation, and delivery of custom-built computer systems. Troubleshoot installation and operational problems and modify or repair systems to meet the individual and employer needs.
DBVI enables blind or visually impaired individuals to achieve their maximum level of employment, education, and personal independence.
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering techniques as applied to the design and use of adaptive aids and equipment. Demonstrated skill to analyze and solve complex problems related to adaptive aids and technology. Demonstrated ability to design, select and install the proper equipment depending on a specific individual’s need.
College degree with course work in an engineering discipline, preferably rehabilitation engineering, or equivalent. Combination of education and directly related experience in engineering techniques and uses of adaptive aids and appliances for individuals who are blind, deafblind, or vision impaired. Specific knowledge of computer-related adaptations.
