Teacher of the Visually Impaired

LABBB is seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide both consult and direct services to students across our programs located in Belmont, Lexington, and Burlington.

The responsibilities of the position include:

TVI Responsibilities

Perform Functional Vision and Learning Media Evaluations
Teach unique skills to students with Cortical Visual Impairments (CVI) and Visual Impairments (I would ask specifically what training they have had working with students with CVI since many of LABBB’s students have CVI)
Perform CVI evaluations and make recommendations
Experience with Assistive Technology and AAC
Experience with the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)
Experience teaching functional academics
Consult with teachers, teams and families
Suggest accommodations or modifications of curriculum
Suggest modifications to the environment
Training of teachers/staff on working with students with visual impairments
Write IEP goals and objectives, progress reports
Collaborate with all team members
Register students with the Massachusetts Accessible Instructional Materials Library (AIM Library)
Update Annual Assurance forms for the AIM Library
Update Annual Quota Information for the AIM Library
Order Materials, for use at school, for students with visual impairments through the AIM Library

Qualifications

Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.

Training as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist a plus.
