This employee is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for visually impaired students and meeting duties such as but not limited to Conduct functional vision assessments, produce and adapt a variety of instructional materials into appropriate media using specialized technology such as a Braille writer, computer software or other related equipment, Provides direct instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum for students who are blind or visually impaired, including Braille and Nemeth Code, low vision devices, technology, career readiness, daily living skills, compensatory skills, self-determination skills, and orientation and mobility skills.
Education: Minimum of BA/BS in Special Education in Visual Impairments
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: Current certification/licensure through the Tennessee Department of Education in Visual Impairments.
Experience: Worked with youth (ages 3-21) with visual impairments in a school setting is desired, but not required.
Skills Required: Knowledge of and experience with Braille (including Nemeth Code), Low Vision Devices, Functional Vision/Learning Media Assessments and Expanded Core Curriculum Screenings/Assessments are required.
