CABVI is seeking an Technology Teacher to provide computer training to children and adult consumers who are blind and visually impaired, enabling them to achieve their highest level of functioning.
Job Duties Include:
Remain current in all aspects of technology advancements including adaptive technology, seeks out innovative technology solutions and attends training as required.
Develop and ensure the provision of quality technology services and the timely delivery of these services to CABVI consumers.
Provide technology services in accordance with adaptive technology contracts including consumer readiness, assessment, equipment recommendations and installations, training, staff development, educational/workplace evaluations and remote technical assistance.
Develop and/or maintain contractual obligations for assistive technology with service organizations.
Develops collegial relationship with NYSCB relative to contractual obligations.
Develops and conducts specific children’s technology programs.
Attends all meetings as assigned.
Work with Director of Rehabilitation Clinical Services and rehab department team to expand programs and services to individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
Provide technology services to children with visual impairments located in public/private school settings.
Develop and conduct workshops, seminars and group training to individuals who are visually impaired as well as support staff and professionals who may work with individuals with visual impairments.
Conduct community presentations on adaptive technology.
Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, consumers, employers, educators, associated professionals and the general public.
Must have expertise with microcomputers and their operating systems. Must be knowledgeable regarding conventional hardware/software and installation. Ability to install hardware/software on PC and Macintosh systems.
Familiarity with large print, speech and Braille preferred.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key job elements.
Advanced degrees in computer science or education. Formal training certificates in software pr hardware applications may be substituted for formal degrees. Knowledge of assistive technology and/or teaching experience serving those with disabilities a plus.
