International Outreach

UMass Boston Vision Studies and the Northeast Resource Center for Vision Education are committed to supporting the international community through personnel preparation and technical assistance. Below highlights our ongoing international collaborations.

International Collaborations

Moonset Yu | Taiwan and China

The University of Massachusetts Boston Vision Studies Personnel Preparation initiative in Taiwan responds to the collaborative need for various braille courses as well as courses preparing the student for the Low Vision Therapist exam and national certification.

Adriana Mattei-Sosa, Manolo Alvarez  | Puerto Rico

The University of Massachusetts Boston Vision Studies Personnel Preparation initiative in Puerto Rico engages the Commonwealth as a full regional partner of the 6 New England states. Regional partners are written into all federal grants as targeted geographical areas for recruitment, scholarship and technical assistance. Membership as a regional partner requires broad-based community support. This includes representation from the state/commonwealth department of education, vocational rehabilitation agency, local education agencies and professional community as well as any local universities with invested academic interests. Applicants, meeting the Graduate Admissions criteria, are offered full tuition scholarship upon admission when grant funding is available (TVI, O&M and VRT).

June De Leon | Pacific Island Region

Guam CEDDERS, the UCEDD at the University of Guam, partnered with the University of Massachusetts-Boston on a  personnel preparation grant – Pacific  VIP. In 2014, 18 students from the Pacific region graduated with a Masters in Vision Studies from UMass Boston.

Geraldine Neill and Ilka Staglin  | Ireland
